FISHING TRIP DETAILS

  • Your day begins at the boat slip in the Seward Small Boat Harbor. You'll find Semaka Charters at slip H-41. Be there at 6:45 a.m., equipped with a brown bag lunch and a fishing license.
  • Business before pleasure! A safety briefing and orientation start your morning. Please feel free to ask questions. Your comfort and safety is our first priority. FYI: Semaka Charters, licensed with the U.S. Coast Guard, has a perfect safety record.
  • Departure occurs at 7 a.m., rain or shine!

Where do we go? You can count on Captain Clock to pinpoint the best time and place to fish. Typically, he heads outside Resurrection Bay, east toward the Prince William Sound, west toward the Kenai Fjords, along coastlines, or in small bays. If you have a specific destination in mind, please just ask. We'll happily tailor the trip to make your dreams come true.

What do we fish for? Most often, we fish for salmon, halibut, rockfish and lingcod, or a combination of these. The majority of our trips are for halibut, and our repeat clientele attests to our success! Semaka Charters is renowned for bringing in great catches.

  • Return to the Small Boat Harbor is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
  • The crew wheel your fish to the cleaning station, and after weighing and photo opportunities, the fish are cleaned and expertly filleted for you (unless you request a different cut).
  • Several shops nearby will vacuum seal and freeze your catch for you, and arrange to have them shipped to your home.

About the Resurrection Bay sport fish management area. This area consists of all fresh and salt waters between Gore Point and Cape Puget.map  The City of Seward is the only community in the management area. Access to sport fisheries are by road, rail, air, and boat. Except for some road-accessible streams, lakes, and Seward beaches, most sport fisheries in this area are relatively remote and require a boat or plane to access.

The Resurrection Bay area is home to one of the largest marine coho salmon fisheries in the Pacific Northwest. Anglers take full advantage of this fishery during the popular Silver Salmon Derby, sponsored by the Seward Chamber of Commerce every August.

According to the Alaska Department of Fish & Game (ADF&G), "In 2004, more than 107,000 coho salmon were harvested." Further, sport anglers target hatchery king salmon as well as pink and chum salmon and Dolly Varden char. Bottomfish species such as halibut, rockfish, and lingcod, are fished in Resurrection Bay as well. Also reported by the ADF&G, more than 109,000 halibut, rockfish, and lingcod were harvested in Resurrection Bay and nearby marine waters in 2004.
