Here is the largest fish caught on the "Seafarer" in 2007.

We were out at Montague Island in marginal weather, and very few other boats were out there that day. Our fishermen were in good shape and able to handle the seas while still fishing. This halibut was caught in about 150 feet of water at the same time another large one was hooked. The smaller one was about 120 pounds and kept making runs toward the anchor line, but finally it was horsed to the boat where it was harpooned, clubbed, bled and slid into the hold. All lines were cleared to enable the person with the larger halibut to work his fish. After about 20 minutes of fighting, he finally got it to within harpoon range, but it came up under the boat. The deckhand was very surprised at the size and could not get the harpoon stuck because only its nose was visible. The fish sounded and ran forward. The angler was able to slow it down and get it turned around again. Using an Avet exw 04 reel with 200# spectra line ensured that it was unlikely to snap the line, but we still needed to try to maintain control of it. The halibut was finally brought up close again, but as before, hid under the boat. This time the angler managed to pull its head out enough for the skipper to stick it with a harpoon, and then the deckhand harpooned it also with the ready spare. The halibut still had plenty of energy but slowed down enough after being clubbed to enable the crew to shoot it with .410 slug.

This was one a wiley and powerful fish that almost got away! Back at the dock, it weighed 290 pounds and measured 86 inches long.
